WATFORD TUBE DRIVER JAILED FOR COLD 1994 SEX ATTACKS
A Tube driver has been sentenced to prison for the rape and attempted rape of two women in northwest London in 1994.Russell Chandler, aged 41 from Watford, committed these assaults; he raped a 34-year-old woman on May 3rd as she was walking through an underpass of the A41 at Watford Way in Mill Hill.
Two days later, he attempted to assault a 22-year-old woman in the same area.
Police revealed that Chandler left DNA evidence at the scene, but he was only apprehended after being arrested in June 2015 for an unrelated offence.
His DNA was taken and on matching it with the national database, he was charged with these historic attacks.
Chandler, who had previously pleaded guilty to two sexual assaults, was found guilty of rape and attempted rape during a trial at Harrow Crown Court.
He was subsequently sentenced to 13 years in prison for the rape and an additional nine and a half years for the attempted rape, with both sentences running concurrently.
