ROYDON BROOKES FROM JEDBURGH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER POSSESSING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND BESTIALITY MATERIALS
In August 2017, a serious case involving a resident of Jedburgh came to light when Roydon Brookes, aged 35, was found to be in possession of highly disturbing and illegal material.Brookes was charged with possessing three videos that contained indecent images of children, alongside extreme pornographic content depicting acts of bestiality.
These materials were discovered at his residence on Howden Road, a location well known in the local community.
Brookes appeared before Jedburgh Sheriff Court to face the charges.
He pleaded guilty to both offences, acknowledging his possession of the illicit videos.
Sheriff Peter Paterson, presiding over the case, noted that although the number of images recovered was limited, the nature of the content was extremely serious.
Despite the gravity of the offences, the sheriff decided against imposing a custodial sentence, citing the relatively small quantity of material involved.
Instead, Brookes was sentenced to a three-year community payback order.
This order includes provisions for Internet supervision, aimed at monitoring his online activity and preventing further offences.
Additionally, Brookes was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of three years, requiring him to comply with certain restrictions and reporting obligations.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about the possession and distribution of illegal and harmful images, and the judicial system’s approach to such offences in the Borders region.
