2006: RAPIST JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS
A man convicted of raping a pregnant woman in her Bromsgrove residence was sentenced to seven years in prison at Worcester Crown Court.Prosecutor Tariq Shakoor stated that Roy Tripass visited the victim—whom he knew—around 10.30pm and demanded sex.
She attempted to persuade him to leave before retreating to her bedroom, where he assaulted her.
An eight-man, four-woman jury deliberated for over four hours before finding 25-year-old Tripass, of Alder Lane, Bourneville, Birmingham, guilty of rape.
He was acquitted of theft charges related to £40 stolen from the woman, a single mother.
Judge Michael Mott highlighted that her pregnancy and her young son being asleep nearby enhanced the severity of the crime.
The judge also remarked that Tripass’s attitude seemed to be “I can do what I want with her.” During the trial, Tripass—who showed signs of emotion and shook his head at the verdict—had traveled from Birmingham to the woman's address on September 4 of the previous year.
Defense counsel Kristina Montgomery noted that he was “not habitually violent in a sexual manner” and did not remain a danger to women.
Tripass claimed that the victim consented to their sexual encounter and accused her of leaving to buy him cigarette papers so he could smoke cannabis that night.
