EDINBURGH MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO EXTENSIVE DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
A violent individual identified as Ross Queripel has been involved in a serious course of domestic abuse against his partner, over a span of 16 months while living together in his Edinburgh residence from January 2021 to May 2022.It was reported that Queripel repeatedly assaulted and harassed his girlfriend, exerting control over her social media and mobile phone, and on one occasion, violently hit her over the head with a glass candle.
During another violent outburst, he smashed her laptop and subsequently abandoned her at a deserted car park while she was only dressed in pyjamas.
The victim’s injuries, including facial bruising, were initially concealed by her but later recognized and reported by her parents after the abuse became unmanageable.
The court heard that Queripel’s attacks included punching, kicking, slapping, and a particularly severe assault in March 2021 that required staples to be inserted into the woman’s head at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
His relentless jealousy was evident in frequent calls and texts when she went out socially.
The abuse came to public attention when her parents intervened after suspecting her injuries, leading to Queripel’s arrest.
He pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to engaging in a pattern of abusive behavior, including assault and monitoring her movements.
The Sheriff noted that the incidents were 'a very serious matter that might well have reached the custody threshold,' and ordered investigations for social work and domestic abuse support, though Queripel’s sentence was deferred pending reports.
The court also heard that Queripel’s violence involved strangulation and controlling tactics, with one incident in June 2021 where he drove the woman to a remote car park and left her there in her nightwear.
The victim eventually disclosed the abuse after her family’s intervention.
Queripel now faces a potential jail sentence following his guilty plea.
