GLASGOW MAN ADMITS ASSAULT OF PARTNER AT ARROCHAR PUB
A man who attacked his partner at a village pub was freed to return to her for the festive period.Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard that the couple were in the Ben Arthur Bothy pub in Arrochar on August 10, 2024 and had been consuming alcohol.
At the time, the partner was speaking to another male, who was upset about something and she was comforting him.
Ross Parsons, from Glasgow, originally faced charges of restricting the breathing of the woman and a man to the danger of life.
But prosecutors accepted he was not guilty of the allegations.
The 25-year-old, of Cartyne, Glasgow, instead pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner in Arrochar, placing his arms around her neck and compressing it.
Witnesses saw Parsons put his arms around her neck, describing "him doing that for approximately two minutes".
His partner struggled to free herself but eventually managed to escape.
No injuries were reported.
He was put on bail and given an electronically monitored curfew later that month, but he broke those restrictions on May 3 and 4 this year when he was found at the Art House Hotel in Glasgow.
He has been in custody awaiting trial since then.
The court was told that Parsons' record is concerning, featuring issues with domestic violence, and he has spent a significant time on remand, totaling 369 days.
The defence argued that Parsons has reflected on his actions and taken steps to better himself and his family.
The judge indicated that, considering his guilty plea and time served, a non-custodial sentence could be considered, but warned that further alcohol-related incidents would have severe consequences.
Parsons acknowledged the court's concerns and showed remorse, wiping tears as he was led back to custody.
Sentencing is scheduled for later in January.
