POLICE OFFICER GIVEN SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR MISCONDUCT WITH CRIME VICTIM
A Surrey Police officer named Ross Martin, residing in Cobden Street, Gosport, Hampshire, has admitted to misconduct in a public office by engaging in inappropriate behaviour with a vulnerable crime victim.
During 2024, Martin sent the victim messages of a sexual nature over a two-week period.
Following his guilty plea, he was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court to a two-month prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and was subject to a five-year restraining order.
The court had previously found that Martin should have been dismissed from the force if he had not already resigned three days prior to the misconduct hearing in February.
Surrey Police stated, 'Crimes committed by officers simply cannot be condoned,' emphasising their stance against misconduct and highlighting that most officers serve with honesty and integrity.
