PERTH MAN ROSS COPLAND CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY FILES AT HIS HOME

Ross Copland, a 24-year-old resident of Perth, faced the Perth Sheriff Court to answer charges related to the possession of illegal and highly disturbing files containing images of minors as young as 10 years old. The incident dates back to May 2, 2021, when authorities uncovered evidence of his illicit activities.

During the court proceedings, Fiscal Douglas Thompson provided details about the circumstances surrounding the case. He explained that at the time of the offense, Copland was living at his family home. The family was experiencing internal difficulties, largely stemming from Copland’s troubling obsession with pornography. As a measure to curb his access to inappropriate content, his parents had taken steps to restrict his internet usage, including prohibiting him from connecting to the home Wi-Fi network. Additionally, his parents regularly conducted searches of his electronic devices in an effort to monitor and control his online activity.

On the day in question, with Copland absent from the house, his parents conducted a search of his bedroom. During this search, they discovered a hard drive that had not been previously known to them. This hard drive contained multiple images of adults, but more alarmingly, it also held a folder labeled “Young.” Inside this folder, investigators found indecent images of children believed to be between 10 and 13 years old. Recognizing the severity of the discovery, the parents promptly contacted the police.

Law enforcement officials seized several electronic devices for forensic analysis. The subsequent investigation revealed a total of 64 obscene files, including 24 duplicates, on the hard drive and other devices. The evidence was deemed highly disturbing and prompted further legal action. Ross Copland, who resides in Perth, was subsequently placed on the sex offenders register as part of the legal proceedings. His sentencing is scheduled for next month, where the court will determine the appropriate punishment for his actions.
