DOMESTIC ABUSER SHOUTS AT COURT AFTER CONVICTION IN INVERNESS
A man identified as Rory MacMillan, labeled as a "violent serial domestic abuser," caused a disturbance in Inverness Sheriff Court after being convicted of attacking three of his former partners between 2004 and 2013.During the trial, MacMillan launched a foul-mouthed tirade at jurors and court officials, shouting that the court "bought into their lies" and exclaiming, "My life is ruined by you lot." Security officers had to forcibly remove him as he struggled with a guard.
The court heard that MacMillan had previously served a jail sentence and had prior convictions.
The victims, including Lindsay Court, Donna Carson, and Hollie Cole, testified that MacMillan had assaulted them, with two of the victims being pregnant at the time.
Miss Court suffered a cut to her head and a split lip; Ms Carson was struck on the knee with a mobile phone and dragged from her sick bed by her hair; Ms Cole was punched multiple times, bruised, and at one point hospitalized.
All victims explained they were too afraid to leave him or report the abuse.
The trial was prolonged due to MacMillan dismissing three legal lawyers before court-appointed representation.
The jury took an hour to reach their verdict after the prosecutor described MacMillan as a "violent serial domestic abuser." MacMillan claimed that injuries were accidental and that any physical altercations were for restraining or self-protection.
Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald was informed of his previous convictions, and sentencing was deferred until July 12 to include a background report.
His legal counsel apologized for his behavior, and no bail was requested.
The court will sentence him next month.
