PORT TALBOT SEX OFFENDER RONALD PREDDY SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR DECADES OF ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the community of Port Talbot and the surrounding areas, Ronald Preddy, a 73-year-old man from Dunraven Street, Glyncorrwg, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple sexual offences spanning over a quarter of a century. The crimes, which involved the sexual abuse of young boys, were committed over a period of approximately 25 years, with some incidents dating back to the 1990s.Preddy, who previously worked as a security guard at a coal mine in South Wales, faced a series of serious allegations during his trial at Swansea Crown Court. The charges included rape and indecent assault, with the victims being two young boys. Despite his initial denial of the allegations, the court found him guilty of the offences after a detailed trial.
The judge presiding over the case, Huw Davies QC, did not hold back in his condemnation of Preddy. He described him as a “remorseless sexual predator” who had engaged in a pattern of predatory behavior over many years. The court heard that Preddy had used various tactics to manipulate and coerce his young victims, including offering bribes as small as 50p and employing threats to force them into sexual acts.
The evidence presented during the trial detailed two separate sets of offences, one occurring in the 1990s and the other more recent. The court was told that these incidents took place within the South Wales area, where Preddy had lived and worked. It was also revealed that Preddy had previously been convicted in 2004 for sexual offences involving a young boy, for which he received an eight-year prison sentence.
Throughout the proceedings, the court noted that Preddy had appeared before Swansea Crown Court three times over a 12-year period for similar offences, each time denying any wrongdoing. The judge emphasized that Preddy had shown no remorse for his actions, which contributed to the severity of his sentence.
In total, Preddy was sentenced to an extended prison term of 21 years, with a custodial period of 18 years. Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions. The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and the community, highlighting the importance of justice for those affected by such heinous crimes.
