EDINBURGH MAN CONVICTED OF BRUTAL MURDER OF LANDLADY
Roman Frackiewicz was found guilty of killing his elderly landlady, Jadwiga Szczygielska, in her Edinburgh home, where she had welcomed him after her parish priest advised her to help him.During the trial, it was revealed that Frackiewicz, intoxicated with vodka, assaulted Mrs.
Szczygielska, leading to fatal injuries such as a ruptured heart and multiple fractures, including 14 ribs, a fractured breastbone, and collapsed lungs.
Despite her kindness in providing him accommodation, he took advantage of her generosity and carried out a brutal attack, which resulted in her dying on her kitchen floor while he went to bed.
The jury unanimously convicted him of murder, and the judge, Lord Braid, sentenced him to life imprisonment with the sentence postponed pending a background report.
Frackiewicz, who had previous convictions for assaults, including domestic violence, remained in custody ahead of his next court hearing.
The victim, Jadwiga Szczygielska, was a Polish national who had moved to Scotland, and her son Krzysztof expressed his grief over her death, describing the crime as tragic and terrible.
Police Scotland outlined her as a generous woman who was widely respected and condemned Frackiewicz’s violent, cruel, and shameful actions.
