EDINBURGH MAN GETS LIFE FOR KILLING PARTNER AND PREVIOUS VIOLENCE
A man named Roger Crossan was condemned to life imprisonment after being found guilty of murdering his partner, Moira Gilbertson, in his residence in Edinburgh.Crossan, aged 53, inflicted fatal stab wounds on Ms.
Gilbertson following a period of intoxication involving alcohol and drugs, during which he kept her body in his flat for several days.
He left a note that read 'God will get me' as a confession.
Lady Scott, the presiding judge, remarked, 'You stabbed your partner in the chest, and the severity of her wound made her death unavoidable.' The court was told that Lady Gilbertson, aged 56 and reliant on a walking stick due to limited mobility, had previously been a victim of violence from Crossan, who had a conviction for assaulting her in 2011.
Crossan also served an eight-year sentence in 1999 for manslaughter of a previous partner in England and had other domestic violence-related convictions.
The judge specified that Crossan must serve a minimum of 21 years before becoming eligible for parole, highlighting his violent history and prior convictions.
The court acknowledged that his guilty plea resulted in a reduction of the minimum sentence from 23 years to the current term.
