ELDERLY MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER CHILD SEX CHAT EXPOSÉ
Rodney Cook, aged 83, has been involved in a scandalous case where he engaged in sexually explicit conversations with a girl 70 years his junior.Unaware he was speaking to an undercover police officer, Cook asked the girl if she wanted to 'chew on the sausage of older men'.
The court heard that Cook attempted to communicate sexually with a minor on an adult dating app for swingers, where he asked the girl, who identified herself as 13, 'Do you want to play with older men and chew on their sausage?' Prosecutor Nicholas Mesure outlined that Cook's conduct was extremely inappropriate.
He created an account under a pseudonym but listed his real age.
In late September 2022, he started a chat with a profile named 'Milly'.
Despite being told the girl was young, Cook continued the conversation, which became sexual in nature.
He even offered to travel to her location in Peterborough and described various sexual acts he wanted to perform, including sending indecent photos of himself and requesting her to delete the chat.
In January 2023, Cook sent her a photo of an antique bed, expressing his desire to have sex with her on it, and later discussed booking a hotel room, which he eventually canceled before meeting.
Police tracked Cook using his phone number and photos, leading to his arrest in May 2023.
He was charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and arranging to commit a child sex offence, the latter charge being left on file.
At the hearing, Cook was sentenced to 15 months, suspended for two years, in Inner London Crown Court.
Judge Matthew Boyle condemned his actions as a 'disgrace' and emphasized that Cook's advanced age and failing health only spared him from immediate prison, warning that any repeat offense would result in prison.
Cook sat in his wheelchair during the hearing, unable to hear some remarks due to a lack of hearing assistance, and appeared emotionless.
The judge highlighted that Cook's reputation was 'laying in ruins' and that his loneliness was 'no excuse' for his behavior.
Despite the suspension, Cook was warned that if he reoffends, he would be sent straight to prison.
The court also considered references from Cook's family attesting to his good character, but emphasized the seriousness of the case.
