EDINBURGH MAN FACING 33 SEX CHARGES DENIES BEING 'PREDATOR'
A man accused of more than 30 sexual offences involving four different complainants – including young teenagers – has denied being a ‘predator’.Roderick Bryce-Stafford is currently on trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with 33 sexual offences including rape, causing a child to engage in non-penetrative activity, sexual assault and more.
The indictment involves four complainants, all of whom are unnamed for legal reasons.
The defendant, aged 52, has denied the offences and is now standing trial expected to last about three weeks.
During the trial, Bryce-Stafford claimed he had been used as a ‘sexual toy’ by one of the complainants, stating he felt the activity was sometimes reciprocal, asserting ‘they’re not sex toys.
I felt in some instances it was the other way around.
I wasn’t f****** them, they were f****** me.
He was using me for his pleasure.
[He was using me] in a sexual way.’ When the prosecutor called him a ‘predator’, he simply replied ‘no’.
It was also heard that one of the complainants was aged 16, and Bryce-Stafford allegedly groomed him by ‘speaking about his sexual experience with girls’, telling the boy after the first incident: “This will be our little secret.” The defendant reportedly would ‘ply’ the boy with alcohol and ‘demand’ sexual activities as ‘the price’, leaving the boy ‘disgusted’ with himself.
Bryce-Stafford, of Milton Road West, Edinburgh, claimed during his defence that he was in a consensual relationship with the complainant and that the activity was mutual.
The trial continues, with the judge expected to give legal directions before closing statements.
The jury is due to retire soon after Easter.
