HOLYHEAD PAEDOPHILE ROBERT PARRY SENTENCED AGAIN IN CAERNARFON COURT

In a case that has left a lasting scar on the victim, Robert Parry, a man with ties to Holyhead and formerly of Anglesey, has been subjected to further legal action after a series of disturbing sexual offenses. The recent sentencing comes after Parry, now aged 76, admitted to engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a teenage boy, an incident that took place in the early 2000s when the victim was only between 13 and 15 years old.

According to court proceedings at Caernarfon Crown Court, the victim, who was approximately 14 or 15 at the time, was in his own kitchen when Parry, who was in his 50s during the incident, reached over with his right arm and touched him intimately over his clothing for a few seconds. The victim described feeling an overwhelming sense of panic and embarrassment at that moment, which he kept to himself for many years. It was only after discovering that Parry had been prosecuted for other sexual offenses that he decided to come forward and report the incident.

During the hearing, the victim provided a heartfelt statement, revealing that he had been haunted by the experience for years. He expressed that the trauma had deeply affected him, stating, “I have never felt the fear I felt that day again in my life.” He also shared that he suffers from flashbacks and has sought counselling, emphasizing that this court case represents a crucial step towards closing that painful chapter of his life. Prosecutor Laura Knightly highlighted the emotional toll on the victim, noting that he described the incident as a moment of intense fear and vulnerability, with a clear disparity in age and a predatory intent from Parry.

In his defense, Anna Pope described the incident as “mercifully short-lived” and pointed out that Parry is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence imposed in 2016 for other sexual offenses. She also mentioned that Parry is currently held in prison for 22 hours a day due to staffing shortages, and that he has been engaging in creative writing courses and participating in competitions, with plans to undertake further educational activities.

Judge His Honour Timothy Petts addressed the court, expressing hope that this case would serve as an important step in the victim’s recovery. He emphasized the vulnerability of the victim, the age disparity, and Parry’s predatory behavior. The judge sentenced Parry to an additional six months in prison, which will be served concurrently with his existing sentence. Furthermore, Parry will remain in prison or on license until he is approximately 82 years old. Even after his release, he will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and sex offender notification requirements, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.

In a related case from December 2016, Robert John Parry, then aged 69 and residing in Trefor, Holyhead, was convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over several years against a young girl and boy. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison after admitting to 18 charges, including attempted rape of the girl when she was just twelve years old. The court heard how Parry’s actions had “robbed them of their childhood,” with the female victim, now an adult, testifying about the lasting impact of his abuse. She described her efforts to block out her memories and expressed that her childhood had been stolen, with the trauma continuing to influence her as an adult.

The male victim’s impact statement was also read aloud, revealing his struggle to understand the wrongfulness of Parry’s actions and his feelings of helplessness. Judge Huw Rees, presiding over the case, stated that Parry’s conduct had effectively destroyed their innocence and childhood. During the sentencing, Parry remained stoic and expressionless. Prosecutor Elen Owen noted that Parry, who owned a gardening business, had described himself to police as a sex addict in need of help, claiming that he did not seek gratification but rather experienced a “buzz” from his actions. The court’s decision reflects the severity of his crimes and the lasting damage inflicted upon his victims.
