SEX OFFENDER LAUNCHED LAWNMOWER ACROSS ROOM DURING UNPAID WORK APPOINTMENT
A CONVICTED sex offender behaved in a threatening or abusive manner and wilfully destroyed property by launching a lawnmower across a room while attending an appointment to carry out unpaid work in the community.
Robert Melrose was placed on the sex offenders' register and given a community order after he admitted possessing indecent images of children at an address in Tranent between July 29, 2021, and November 29, 2022.
As part of the sentencing Melrose, 23, was ordered to carry out unpaid work but, when he turned up to carry out the work, he was said to have shouted, sworn and uttered threats of violence.
Melrose, currently of High Street, Haddington, also threw a lawnmower across a room and damaged electrical and computer equipment during the incident at the East Lothian Council unit on Mid Road, Prestonpans, on November 6 last year.
He pleaded guilty to both charges at a court hearing in the Capital last December and sentence was deferred for reports to Monday.
Sheriff Charles Walls said that he would allow the original community payback order to continue and deferred sentence further on the new matter for three months.
