EAST LOTHIAN CHILD SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDER
Jamie Cunningham, a convicted child sex offender from East Lothian, who had previously violated a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SHPO) nine times by befriending elderly women unaware of his criminal history, has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Cunningham was initially subjected to a strict court order following his 2015 conviction for sending sexually explicit messages to two girls aged 11 and 12.
Although he avoided jail at that time, he was incarcerated seven months later for contacting two young girls and a 10-month-old infant at a fireworks event.
Due to community protests, he was compelled to leave his residence in Troon.
His most recent violations involved forming friendships with elderly women at the library, taking lengthy walks with one of them, and visiting her without invitation.
These breaches took place between February 10 and March 30 of this year, resulting in his arrest and subsequent guilty plea.
The court sentenced him to 24 months in prison, with the sentence backdated to his remand date of April 1, and included six months of supervised release after his release.
The judge highlighted that this was his tenth breach of the SHPO, leaving no option but to impose custody.
