MAN SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS FOR KNIFE ATTACK AND THREATS AGAINST PARTNER
A 57-year-old man named Robert McCabe has been found guilty and received a prison sentence following a severe assault on his partner.During the court proceedings, it was revealed that McCabe, who has a past record of violence towards women, threatened his on-again, off-again girlfriend by saying, 'Tonight is the night you are going to die,' before stabbing her 11 times with a knife.
Subsequently, he made threatening remarks to police, including: 'She is lucky I did not slit her throat - I will slit it when I get out of here, her and her family.' Additional details showed that McCabe also said, 'She is lucky I did not kill her.
I should have slit her throat but I wanted to watch her suffer.' On a separate occasion, he ominously made a gesture mimicking a slit throat.
The court heard that the victim sustained injuries such as six stab wounds to her forearm.
McCabe, who lives on Oakside Close, pleaded guilty to charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, as well as assault by beating in relation to a previous attack.
He was sentenced to seven years behind bars with an extended five-year license, meaning he will serve approximately two-thirds of his term in custody.
Judge Recorder Fowler pointed out that McCabe’s earlier conviction from 2000 for a similar crime—where he was imprisoned for 54 months—illustrates that he remains a significant threat to women in his life.
The court also highlighted the brutal injuries inflicted on the woman and the lasting effects on her health, including her inability to drive, perform daily activities, and maintain her employment.
The assault occurred early in the morning, and police tracked McCabe using CCTV footage after being called to the scene.
Described as 'horrifying,' the injuries underscored the brutality of the attack and McCabe’s ongoing danger to women he associates with.
