NIAMH GALLAGHER'S BRUTAL ATTACK IN CHEADLE LEAVES VICTIM INJURED
In a disturbing incident that unfolded during a romantic weekend in North Staffordshire, 21-year-old Niamh Gallagher from Cheadle was convicted and sentenced to three years and five months in prison for a violent assault on her then-boyfriend.The assault took place at Quarry Walk Lodges in Freehay, a location known for hosting private getaways, in January 2023.
According to court reports, Gallagher was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time of the attack.
The violence erupted after a confrontation about her alleged infidelity.
Gallagher, who was reportedly intoxicated and suffering from PTSD stemming from a previous abusive relationship, took two kitchen knives and launched a brutal assault on her partner.
During the attack, she stabbed him in the leg and also punctured his head with car keys, inflicting multiple injuries that required medical attention.
The incident was triggered when the victim challenged Gallagher about her phone, suspecting infidelity.
Gallagher responded violently, lunging at him and causing severe injuries.
Prosecutor Robert Holt detailed how Gallagher's reaction resulted in a stab wound to the victim’s leg, puncture wounds to his head, and bite marks, indicating a ferocious and unprovoked attack.
Gallagher later pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, claiming she believed her actions were in self-defence.
However, the court found her actions to be excessive and unjustified.
During sentencing, the judge acknowledged her history of being involved in an abusive relationship and her apparent lack of maturity.
Nonetheless, the severity of her violence within a domestic setting was emphasized, leading to her custodial sentence.
The case highlights the dangers of alcohol and drug influence in domestic disputes and underscores the importance of addressing underlying issues of abuse and mental health.
