ROBERT MARR'S ESCAPE FROM PERTH LEADS TO ADDITIONAL JAIL TIME IN LONDON

A convicted sex offender, Robert Marr, has been sentenced to an additional 60 days behind bars after he was found to have absconded following his recent release from prison in Perth. Marr, aged 34, who hails from Perth, was initially released in September after serving a sentence for assault with intent to rape. Despite legal obligations requiring him to notify authorities of his whereabouts, Marr failed to do so, leading to his brother reporting him missing on Boxing Day.

Police investigations eventually led to Marr being located in London on January 12. His failure to comply with the sex offenders register by not informing police of his change of residence from Perth was a key factor in his latest sentencing. Marr admitted to the breach, which is considered a serious violation of the conditions imposed upon him as a registered sex offender.

It was revealed during court proceedings that this was not Marr’s first incident of going missing after his release from incarceration. His criminal history includes a five-year sentence starting in 2002, followed by an additional two-year extension upon his release. Marr was released from Peterhead Prison in December 2005 but breached his release conditions shortly thereafter, leading to his return to jail in April 2006 to serve the remaining portion of his sentence.

He was released once more on September 18 of the previous year, only to be reported missing again. This time, he was found in London, far from his original location in Perth. Marr’s solicitor described him as a “model prisoner” during his incarceration and argued that his release was in the public’s best interest. The solicitor explained that Marr had intended to move to Dundee but, due to harassment and theft at his Perth address, he traveled to Inverness and subsequently to London. Marr acknowledged that his actions were foolish breaches of his release conditions.

His repeated violations and failure to adhere to the terms of his release highlight ongoing issues with his management of his parole conditions. As a result of his latest breach, Marr faces additional jail time, emphasizing the serious consequences of non-compliance for sex offenders under supervision. His case underscores the challenges authorities face in monitoring and managing individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially when they attempt to evade detection by moving across different locations, including international destinations like London.
