VIOLENT PARTNER WAVED KNIFE AND THREATENED HIS GIRLFRIEND IN DISTURBING ASSAULT
A man named Robert Lee, residing in Dalton, has been involved in a violent domestic incident.
He waved a knife at his partner during a frightening attack fueled by alcohol and cannabis.
Lee's behavior escalated as he accused her of spending Christmas away with their children and not writing his name on their presents, which upset him.
During the altercation, he demanded to speak to the children and became increasingly angry.
The victim recounted that Lee snatched her mobile phone to prevent her from calling her mum and then threatened her with a kitchen knife held to her throat, saying, "If anybody comes I'm going to take you hostage and slash anybody else that comes." He also threatened her by saying, "If you get me arrested I'll kill you." Lee pleaded guilty to assault, admitting to punching her three times on the arm and that he waved the knife in her direction.
He explained that his actions were driven by upset feelings over Christmas.
The court heard that Lee had a previous record of violent offenses, including weapon use and assault involving the same partner.
He was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, and was placed under a community order with a 5-year restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim, including via social media.
The judge described Lee as 'particularly dangerous' and warned that any further offenses within two years would result in immediate imprisonment.
