TYNESIDE KISS CHEAT THREATENED TO KILL DEAF PARTNER USING SIGN LANGUAGE
A man caught kissing another woman during a night out celebrating his anniversary later threatened to kill his deaf partner using sign language.
Robert Keegan had been in a relationship with the woman since 2014 and they have two children together, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
Around October 14, 2022, during an outing in Newcastle, Keegan got involved with another woman and they went to a nightclub.
He later caused her to fear unlawful violence by appearing at her window and making threats in sign language, saying "Let me in or I will kill you," before damaging her property.
In August 2023, after the relationship ended, he was seen outside her home, further intimidating her.
He earlier sent her a message apologising and asking her not to contact police, also sending a picture of tablets and a drink, which she considered a suicide threat.
Keegan pleaded guilty to common assault, harassment, and criminal damage.
He received an 18-month community order, a ten-year restraining order, and was ordered to pay costs and compensation.
The court noted he has no previous convictions and regrets his actions.
