SHOCKING CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES FOUND IN MELKSHAM: ROBERT JONES FACES JUSTICE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Melksham, Robert Jones, a 52-year-old resident of Forest Road, has been implicated in serious offences involving the creation and possession of indecent images of children. The case, which has garnered significant attention from local authorities and the public alike, highlights the ongoing battle against child exploitation and online abuse.Jones was formally charged and subsequently admitted to four separate criminal offences related to the possession and creation of illegal images and videos. These offences ranged from level one to level four in severity, with level five representing the most extreme category of such material. His actions, which involved storing and viewing highly disturbing content, prompted swift legal action.
On a recent court date held at North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court in Chippenham, Jones was sentenced to a 30-month community order. As part of his punishment, he was ordered to register with the police under the Sex Offenders’ Register, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities moving forward. Additionally, he was required to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and cover legal costs amounting to £85.
The case initially came to light in March 2014, when police, acting on intelligence provided by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre, executed a search warrant at Jones’ residence. During the operation, authorities seized a laptop and desktop computer, which contained a disturbing collection of illegal material. Investigations revealed that Jones had stored approximately 20 movies and photographs depicting children, with a significant majority of the victims being under the age of 13.
The images and videos uncovered ranged from less severe to the most extreme levels of abuse, with two of the images classified as the most severe. The material dated from nine months prior to the seizure up to the day of the police raid, indicating ongoing possession and viewing of illegal content.
Jones is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on April 17, 2014, where further legal proceedings will determine the full extent of his punishment. The case underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts in combating child exploitation and protecting vulnerable victims from further harm in the Melksham area and beyond.
