EDINBURGH GRANDFATHER ROBERT DOUGLAS JAILED FOR JEALOUS RAGE MURDER
A 64-year-old man named Robert Douglas was found guilty of the murder of his partner, Marie Walker, aged 61, at their residence in Edinburgh in August 2018.
The court was informed that Douglas harbored the mistaken belief that Ms Walker was unfaithful, which provoked a violent outburst fueled by jealousy.
He told psychiatrists that a 'red mist' overtook him following a confrontation with her.
The High Court in Edinburgh sentenced him to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 16 years before he could be considered for parole.
Throughout the trial, Douglas confessed to killing Marie Walker by applying pressure to her neck and constricting her breathing, but he argued diminished responsibility, a claim the jury rejected.
The judge, Lord Boyd, stated that Douglas's actions were driven by jealousy and that he had committed a particularly heinous crime, emphasizing that her death would have a lasting impact on her family.
