ROBERT DENNY AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BARNSLEY
A man named Robert Denny was sentenced to prison after a court found him guilty of sexually assaulting a vulnerable young girl at his residence in Barnsley.Denny, who resides on Bondfield Crescent in Wombwell, was given a 14-month incarceration period for his actions.
The incident occurred in July 2020 when the girl visited his house, believing it to be a social gathering or celebration.
During the hearing at Sheffield Crown Court, Judge David Dixon described the circumstances surrounding the assault.
The judge stated that the victim had gone to Denny's house accompanied by friends, and she was dressed in loose-fitting clothing, partly due to having a fake tan, which possibly led Denny to see an opportunity to exploit her.
The judge described Denny’s misconduct, saying, "You took advantage of her.
You preyed on this woman by touching her inappropriately." According to the court, Denny had engaged in a series of inappropriate physical contacts.
He was accused of squeezing the girl’s bottom in an improper manner.
The judge detailed further that Denny had proceeded to lift her up and again teased her inappropriately, touching her bottom with both hands and then attempting to run his hand upward toward her breasts.
All these actions took place during what the court identified as a particularly vulnerable moment for the girl.
Judge Dixon emphasized the serious impact of Denny’s actions on the victim, highlighting the emotional and psychological damage caused by the assault.
Denny was convicted on three counts of sexual assault related to the incident.
The sentencing was divided, with a 12-month sentence handed down for one count, an additional two months for another, and a concurrent one-month sentence for the third offence.
Furthermore, the court issued a sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict Denny’s future contacts and prevent any further misconduct.
A restraining order was also issued, barring Denny from making any direct or indirect contact with the victim, reflecting the court’s concern for her safety and well-being following the incident.
This case underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation and highlights the judicial system’s role in delivering justice in cases of sexual misconduct within the community of Barnsley.
