2023: THUG ROBBIE WELLS IS JAILED BY WORCESTER CROWN COURT JUDGE

A THUG who kicked his former partner in the stomach causing her to fracture her leg and leaving her unable to walk properly has been jailed.

Robbie Wells, of Donaldson Court, Worcester, was brought to justice at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday, (July 18).

A judge told the 43-year-old, who appeared on videolink from HMP Hewell, he had built up an "appalling criminal record" of violence against others.

Dunae Larham, prosecuting, said Wells had been in a relationship with the victim before they split.

After Wells headbutted the victim he was sent to prison and given a restraining order preventing him from contacting her.

But, the prosecutor said, Wells went to the victim's home in Worcester on December 6 last year saying he wanted to give money to his son.

"He entered without knocking," the prosecutor said.

"He gave her £60 in cash.

He asked for a drink.

"Not wanting any issues in front of her son she agreed to his request." After sitting down on the sofa Wells turned nasty saying he wanted his money back before she asked him to leave.

The court heard, as the victim got up to take the glass off Wells, he suddenly without warning kicked out with his legs into her stomach sending her flying back into the fireplace.

The prosecutor said the victim screamed out in excruciating pain and called for her son to call an ambulance.

Wells did not initially leave only being persuaded to by his son.

The court heard the victim suffered a broken leg and had to have a plate inserted in her knee.

The victim's personal statement was read out in court which said: "I may never be able to walk unaided again.

I keep thinking about how I survived this.

I use a mobility scooter when I go out - I'm not even old and I'm having to use one." The prosecutor added that Wells' 43 previous convictions, including for ABH and battery, were an aggravating feature of the case.

Wells had previously admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm and harassment breaching a restraining order.

Alura Bather, defending, said Wells had not meant any harm to the victim and was "very sorry" about what happened.

She told the court that Wells had shown in the past he could stay out of trouble, committing no offences between 2007 and 2018.

The judge jailed Wells for four-and-a-half years.

He gave Wells a new restraining order stressing it would last indefinitely and if Wells ever breached it again, he would face a prison sentence.
