2015: NETHERTON MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND AFTER TAKING LEGAL HIGH
A NETHERTON man who attacked his pregnant girlfriend after downing alcohol and taking a legal high has been jailed for 11 months.Ricky Handy and his partner of three years were arguing when he broke the screen of their expensive TV with a missile.
During the row, Handy, aged 26, also threw a piece of metal at his girlfriend before grabbing her by the throat, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
Hours later, he continued to be aggressive and he smashed in a door panel, said Elizabeth Power, prosecuting.
She said Handy admitted the assault on the basis that he was drunk and he had taken the legal high, known as Lotus, which he bought for £15 in Brierley Hill.
It was accepted, said Miss Power, that there had never been any intention to hurt his partner and it was agreed his behaviour had been “reckless”.
Handy, of Baptist End Road, also admitted two charges of criminal damage and he was told only an immediate jail term was appropriate for his offending.
Graham Russell, defending the father-of-one, said a friend had described how he changed when he had taken alcohol and a legal high.
