LIVERPOOL MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT AND GROOMING
A man named Stephen Aspinwall, aged 43, from Marina Cresent, Netherton, was accused of deviously preying upon and sexually assaulting a young girl for his personal gratification.
Aspinwall was arrested in January 2022 after the victim came forward with allegations describing his actions as twisted and harmful.
Aspinwall denied both engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and sexual assault against a child under 13, but he was found guilty following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court on May 1.
He was subsequently sentenced to four and a half years in prison, ordered to register as a sex offender, and given an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting three individuals.
Merseyside Police's detective inspector Graeme Kehoe described Aspinwall’s offending as 'despicable' and emphasized the emotional harm caused to the victim and her family, praising their courage in coming forward.
He expressed hope that Aspinwall would reflect on his actions while in prison and highlighted the police's commitment to protecting children from sexual abuse, urging anyone with relevant information to report it.
Support services like NSPCC, Childline, and Rape and Sexual Abuse Support are available for victims and those affected.
