MAN THREATENED TO BREAK HIS PARTNER'S JAW AND SET HER ON FIRE

A man threatened to beat up his partner, break her jaw, set her on fire and kill her, a court heard.

Magistrates in Nottingham heard Rickey Beardsley had been in an argument where he claimed he would "strangle the last breath out of her" and called her names throughout the incident.

It was 4.30pm on March 17 when it all happened in Crowley Close, Bilborough, and led to the arrest of 38-year-old Beardsley, who pleaded guilty at court to common assault.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, told the court the defendant "threatened to break the victim's jaw, beat her up and kill her".

"He called her names as well throughout this incident." The woman initially made a statement and then a retraction statement.

The defendant gave a no comment interview.

Since then the couple have "fully reconciled," said Jim Buckley, mitigating.

"The couple have resumed their relationship, they are carrying on.

From what I am told from Mr Beardsley, 'everything is going well in the household'." He described Beardsley as "not somebody with previous domestic violence" and "no problem between the couple before" and "this seems to be a blip effectively".

On the day of the incident, his client told him, there was a fairly bad argument made worse as he was not using his medication.

Beardsley has not been in trouble before the courts for the last four years.

"It's an unusual assault; no actual physical assault, no injury of that nature," said Mr Buckley.

"The complainant retracted her evidence and did not wish to proceed".

Magistrates decided on a community order for 18 months, with ten rehabilitation activity days and 100 hours of unpaid work.

Beardsley, of Crowley Close, was ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £90 which will be deducted from his benefits.
