RICHARD PURDIE CAUGHT IN INVERNESS CHILD PORN SCANDAL AFTER CAR CRASH
Inverness resident Richard Purdie found himself in serious legal trouble following a car accident that ultimately uncovered disturbing evidence of child exploitation. The incident occurred on December 28, 2014, near Loch Ruthven, when police responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision involving Purdie.
Officers arrived at the scene to find Purdie alone inside the vehicle, and it was during this initial investigation that the first signs of his involvement in illegal activities emerged.
According to the court proceedings, Fiscal depute Michelle Molley revealed that Purdie had openly admitted to police that he had accessed inappropriate and illegal content on his computer.
During questioning, Purdie made a chilling remark suggesting that “paedophiles should be shot,” which further raised suspicions about his activities.
This admission prompted officers to conduct a search of his residence located in Glenshiel Place, Inverness.
At his home, law enforcement officials seized a laptop computer and a portable hard drive for forensic analysis.
The subsequent examination uncovered a disturbing collection of images.
On the laptop, investigators discovered fifty images depicting female children and teenagers in sexually explicit situations.
Additionally, the hard drive contained twenty more indecent images, all of which were deemed illegal and highly disturbing.
Purdie, who was identified as a first-time offender, admitted to downloading these illicit images over a period spanning from July 25, 2009, to December 28, 2014.
His actions, therefore, involved a prolonged period of illegal activity, which significantly contributed to the severity of the case.
During the court hearing at Inverness Sheriff Court, Sheriff Margaret Neilson was informed of the details surrounding the case.
Purdie’s defense solicitor, Willie Young, indicated that he would present mitigation arguments on behalf of his client when Purdie reappeared for sentencing scheduled for December 12.
A background report had been prepared to assist the court in determining an appropriate sentence.
As part of the legal consequences, Purdie was placed on the Sex Offenders Register, a measure intended to monitor and manage individuals convicted of sexual offenses.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Inverness to combat child exploitation and underscores the serious repercussions faced by those involved in such heinous crimes.
