JEALOUS HUSBAND CONVICTED OF KILLING WIFE AFTER SUSPICIONS OF INFIDELITY
A husband who murdered his wife in a jealous rage over suspected 'affairs' has been convicted of her murder.Richard Nyawanda Otunga stabbed Shamim Gabriel, the mother of their eight-year-old daughter, more than 30 times at their home in northwest London.
The attack occurred on December 29, and Otunga later called his father-in-law to claim they had an argument.
He was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.
Otunga claimed his wife was stabbed during a struggle after she tried to attack him with a knife.
However, following a trial at the Old Bailey, he was found guilty of her murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones described Otunga as a 'controlling man' who was convinced she had been unfaithful, despite there being 'no evidence' of any affairs.
Otunga, of Taywood Road, Northolt, will be sentenced on Monday.
The judge noted that Otunga attempted to convince the jury that he feared immediate violence from his wife, but the jury rejected this claim and convicted him of murder.
The family of Shamim Gabriel acted with great dignity during the proceedings, and the conviction is hoped to bring some comfort to them.
