SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR FAILING TO NOTIFY POLICE OF ADDRESS CHANGE
A convicted sex offender failed to register his change of address with the police.
Blackburn magistrates heard Richard Mason had done everything else required of him by the probation service but forgot about his responsibility to register a change of address.
Mason, 37, of the homeless pods, Shadsworth, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notification requirements.
He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £154 victim surcharge.
Daniel Frazer, defending, said his client was on prison licence and under the supervision of the probation service.
He was in a probation approved premises in Staffordshire and was told to move to Blackburn where he was housed in the homeless pods over the weekend.
"He attended probation on Monday morning as requested but was in breach of the order because he hadn't told the police where he was staying," said Mr Frazer.
"He was going where he was told to go and doing everything requested of him except tell the police where he was.
There is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation because he is doing everything he is meant to do."
