RICHARD HYDE-GOMES HAS SENTENCE INCREASED TO 16 YEARS

A man who subjected a young girl to repeated sexual abuse over several years has had his prison sentence lengthened following a referral by the Solicitor General, Robert Buckland QC MP, who argued the original term was insufficient.

Richard Hyde-Gomes, then in his early 30s, engaged in ongoing sexual misconduct against his young victim, who was under 15 at the time.

His offenses included an attempted rape.

Hyde-Gomes was detained after the victim recorded an apology from him.

Initially, Hyde-Gomes was sentenced to 10 years in prison at Croydon Crown Court in April.

However, following the Solicitor General’s referral, the Court of Appeal increased his sentence to 16 years yesterday.

The Solicitor General commented on the decision, stating: “Hyde-Gomes engaged in a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse, depriving his victim of her childhood.

I am glad the Court of Appeal has agreed to extend his sentence, which I hope will provide some reassurance to her.”
