A DOMESTIC ABUSER “OBLITERATED” HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND'S LIP WITH A POWERFUL PUNCH THEN TRIED TO FRAME IT ON AN XL BULLY DOG
Delroy Powell, aged 41 and residing on Field Way in Croydon, received a prison sentence of one year and eight months during a hearing at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, February 2.Prosecutor Vanessa Mistry outlined that Powell’s brief romantic relationship with the victim was marred by repeated assaults, which included slapping her and grabbing her by the throat.
Despite these actions, Powell would often apologize extensively afterward.
On May 18 of the previous year, Powell was involved in a serious altercation during which he punched the woman so forcefully that her lip was torn open.
Following the incident, he drove her to the hospital and remained with her throughout, a move likely intended to prevent her from contesting the fabricated explanation he provided to medical staff.
During police questioning, Powell initially claimed he was in Bristol working on a scaffolding project at the time of the assault.
He also falsely stated that the injury resulted from an XL Bully dog owned by the victim’s son, which had allegedly pushed her down the stairs.
Eventually, Powell recanted the lie and admitted to causing actual bodily harm.
He will spend up to two-thirds of the 20-month sentence behind bars before he is eligible for release.
