A man responsible for stalking a woman he knew in West Sussex has received a custodial sentence.
Michael Walker kept watch over the victim’s movements and subjected her to persistent unwanted communication.
His harassment involved making numerous calls each day and creating various social media profiles to reach out to her.
The 37-year-old was convicted of stalking, and on 10 April at Lewes Crown Court, he was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison.
Court proceedings revealed that his intimidating conduct continued for nearly five months, from June to October of the previous year.
This conduct caused the victim to live in fear, prompting her to report the incidents to Sussex Police.
During police interviews, Walker, from Linton Glade in Croydon, was questioned about his actions and responded dismissively, saying, “You’re the police, you work it out.” Following an investigation led by Public Protection officers, he faced charges of stalking and was ultimately convicted after a trial.
However, he was acquitted of any coercive control offenses.
Additionally, a restraining order was issued against Walker, prohibiting him from contacting the victim or visiting certain addresses in Haywards Heath, with the order remaining in effect until 2031.
