RICHARD BRIGGS FROM GAYWOOD AND THETFORD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT KING’S LYNN SPORTS CENTRE
In a recent court ruling, Richard Briggs, a man originally from Gaywood and now residing in Thetford, has been sentenced to a year in prison following his conviction for a serious sexual assault involving a teenage boy.The incident took place at the Lynnsport leisure centre located on Greenpark Avenue in King’s Lynn, a town in Norfolk, and has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the location involved.
Briggs, aged 59, was brought before Norwich Crown Court where he received his sentence on a Monday.
The court proceedings revealed that Briggs had previously been found guilty of a single charge after a trial held in April.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on June 20 of the previous year, during which Briggs approached a 15-year-old boy in a changing room at the Lynnsport sports facility.
According to court reports, Briggs engaged with the young victim in a manner that was inappropriate and then proceeded to assault him while he was in the process of changing clothes.
The details of the assault were disturbing, and the court heard that the act was committed in a private setting within the sports centre, which is a popular recreational venue in King’s Lynn.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Stephen Holt imposed several restrictions on Briggs.
He was explicitly barred from working with children in any capacity, reflecting the court’s concern for public safety and the protection of minors.
Furthermore, Briggs was placed under a five-year sexual offences prevention order, which limits his activities and interactions to prevent any future offences.
As part of his sentencing, Briggs was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, a measure designed to monitor and manage his conduct moving forward.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such offences are treated and highlights the ongoing efforts to safeguard vulnerable individuals in community settings like King’s Lynn.
