THETFORD SEX OFFENDER FACES JAIL AFTER SECRETLY FILMING WOMAN IN SHOWER
A sex offender identified as Daniel Corless, aged 39, has pleaded guilty to secretly filming a woman in a shower. The incident involved Corless placing a mobile phone above a bathroom door to record an unaware woman, capturing her in a private act for sexual gratification.
The offences occurred between September 12 and 30, 2021, but only came to light after Corless was placed on the sex offenders’ register in 2023.
The victim, a 35-year-old woman who cannot be named for legal reasons, was left terrified that her naked footage would be shared.
Prosecutor Paul Brown explained that she initially feared reporting her ordeal, worried that videos taken in 2021 might be released, and only contacted police after the fear intensified.
The court was told she noticed a phone in a glass above a door, which led to the investigation.
Corless, of Old Croxton Road in Thetford, admitted to observing the woman during a private act for sexual gratification.
The court heard that although no footage of her in the shower was recovered, Corless reached up to place the phone and later claimed he deleted the footage.
During police interviews, he stated he wanted to see her naked.
The offences met the threshold for a custodial sentence, with potential jail time ranging from 12 weeks to 18 months.
Magistrates adjourned sentencing until September 10, pending a report to explore all options, including immediate imprisonment.
Corless was released on bail with conditions not to contact the victim.
The case underscores his status as a registered sex offender.
This incident followed a previous conviction for indecent exposure, resulting in a community order.
The court emphasized the seriousness of the offence, with the victim’s safety and emotional well-being at the forefront of the proceedings.
