REVD BOB WELDON, OF HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, FOLKESTONE, PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUAL ASSAULT
A vicar has admitted to sexually assaulting a woman and has been suspended from the church.Revd Bob Weldon, aged 68, pleaded guilty after appearing in court this week in Folkestone accused of the offence.
He admitted to committing the assault on October 30, in Folkestone.
Weldon had worked at Holy Trinity Church in Folkestone but was suspended by the Diocese of Canterbury in December after his arrest.
He appeared before Folkestone Magistrates Court and admitted one count of sexual assault on a woman over 16 related to the October incident.
Weldon is set to be sentenced on September 2.
The diocese issued a statement saying Weldon was suspended 'pending an ongoing investigation' and noted he would not be exercising any public ministry during this period.
The Bishop of Dover, Rose Hudson Wilkins, also issued a statement indicating Weldon had been removed from his position and that a 'safeguarding issue' was involved.
