BARNSLEY MAN SENTENCED AFTER STABBING MOTHER TO DEATH
On 25 May 2021, Renars Geslers, aged 31, fatally stabbed his mother, Agita Geslere, aged 61, inside her Barnsley residence.
He admitted to manslaughter because of diminished responsibility during a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court.
Following this, a hospital order was issued, restricting his potential release without approval from the Ministry of Justice.
The local community was deeply shocked by the event, which Detective Inspector Adam Watkinson characterized as a violent and distressing act.
Witnesses reported hearing screams from a bedroom around half past midnight, observing Renars assaulting his mother, and he was seen pushing family members away when they attempted to intervene.
He subsequently fled the scene before instructing a neighbour to call emergency services.
Police located him at his home, where he was washing clothes, and took him into custody.
The police confirmed that her death resulted from multiple stab injuries.
