REGINALD PALMER FROM PAIGNTON CAUGHT FILMING BOYS IN A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO CLEAR HIS NAME

In a case that has drawn significant attention at Exeter Crown Court, 78-year-old Reginald Palmer, a resident of Compton near Paignton, found himself at the center of a controversial incident involving young boys and allegations of misconduct. Palmer, who has a history as a convicted paedophile, took a highly unusual and misguided step in an attempt to defend his reputation.

According to court reports, Palmer approached two 11-year-old boys in a local park and handed them each a pound coin. His intention was to film the boys as they walked towards him, with the purpose of demonstrating that his dogs would bark and yap when approached, thereby supposedly providing evidence that he was not a threat to children. This act was reportedly motivated by previous allegations that he had breached a sex offenders' prevention order by approaching young people, which he sought to counteract through this questionable method.

The court was informed that Palmer’s actions were an effort to prove his innocence regarding the earlier accusations. However, the court found that his approach was misguided and inappropriate. Judge John Neligan addressed Palmer directly, stating, "It was a misguided thing to do, but understandable, I suppose. Just keep clear of youngsters."

Palmer ultimately pleaded guilty to breaching the Sex Offenders Prevention Order by making the film. In sentencing, he received a 12-month conditional discharge, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period. Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs amounting to £50. The court also heard that David Evans, representing Palmer, clarified that his client was facing three charges related to the breach, but the court formally recorded not guilty verdicts on those charges.
