It was only days before the opening night that the theatre directors disclosed this information to the parents of the young cast members, following York’s decision to step down from the production. His departure was confirmed when his name was removed from the online cast list, raising suspicions and prompting further scrutiny.

York, speaking openly with the local newspaper, the Advertiser, insisted that he had been entirely transparent about his past from the beginning. He stated, “I have never sought to deceive anybody. All I want to do is to live a normal life.” He also expressed that leaving the musical was a difficult but necessary choice, emphasizing his desire not to jeopardize the production or the safety of the children involved. “They’re a terrific bunch of people,” he added.

According to court records, Reese York was sentenced in 2008 for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy. The reports indicate that he faced multiple charges under the alias Rhys Young, including sexual activity with the minor and taking indecent photographs of him. Court documents also reveal that York, then residing in Wiltshire, had a prior conviction dating back to 1996 for a similar offence, which resulted in a jail sentence. The 2008 judge also imposed a lifelong ban on York working with children and mandated his registration on the sex offenders register for life.
