RAYMOND WALLER, BARNET PAEDOPHILE AND FORMER ARMY CADET LEADER, SENTENCED FOR ABUSE IN NORTH LONDON
In a case that has shocked the community of Barnet, Raymond Waller, a 69-year-old man with a history as a former army cadet leader, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual offences committed over a decade.The crimes, which spanned from 1981 to 1991, involved multiple teenage boys aged between 13 and 16 years old, with Waller exploiting his position of authority within the cadet organization to carry out his abuses.
Waller’s criminal activities came to light after reports were made to the Metropolitan Police between 2017 and early 2018.
These reports prompted a thorough investigation, during which authorities pieced together a detailed timeline of his offending.
It was revealed that Waller would often abuse his victims in his flat located in Barnet, where he lived alone, or during various cadet trips, taking advantage of his role to gain access and manipulate vulnerable boys.
Among the victims, one notable case involved Waller establishing a relationship with the mother of a young boy.
This was a calculated move by Waller, intended to deceive the mother and gain access to her son, which he then exploited for his own abusive purposes.
The court heard detailed accounts of Waller’s offences, which included multiple counts of indecent assault and gross indecency.
The charges against him included two counts of indecent assault on a man aged 16 or over, for which he received a 12-month sentence.
Another victim, a boy under 16, was subjected to indecent assault and gross indecency, resulting in a 12-month sentence.
A third victim, under 14, was assaulted and subjected to gross indecency, with Waller receiving a 24-month sentence for each offence.
The final victim suffered two counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency, with sentences of 18 and 24 months respectively, to run consecutively.
Following his conviction, Waller was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Additionally, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register and issued with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
The case has brought to light the disturbing abuse carried out by a trusted figure within the Barnet community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
