MAN WHO MASTURBATED ON BOARD MORNING TRAIN SENTENCED
A man who engaged in public masturbation while onboard a morning train, believing he was alone, has received a sentence of one year and eight months in prison following an investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP).Twenty-nine-year-old Igor Borges, residing on Nether Street in Barnet, appeared at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, February 2, where he pleaded guilty to charges of Exposure and breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
He was also mandated to register as a sex offender for a decade and to pay a victim surcharge.
The court was informed that around 9am on September 1 of the previous year, Borges was traveling on a train from London Bridge to West Croydon.
He was seated opposite the complainant when he exposed himself and began masturbating while gazing at her.
The victim observed Borges staring at her through the reflection in a window.
When she noticed him masturbating, she saw him continue even as she looked at him.
She called emergency services, and Borges signaled for her not to inform anyone.
She then moved to another carriage, and Borges followed, offering apologies.
Other passengers, who overheard her account of the incident, intervened to prevent Borges from following her further.
Borges exited the train at West Croydon.
BTP officers began an investigation, utilizing CCTV footage from the train to identify him.
It was established that Borges was already subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which he had violated by committing this offence.
He was arrested at his home roughly two weeks later.
The existing SHPO, established in August 2023, prohibited him from approaching women he did not know in public spaces.
Initially, Borges denied involvement, claiming it was not him and suggesting police errors.
However, during later interviews, he admitted he believed he was alone when masturbating onboard.
Faced with compelling evidence collected by BTP detectives, Borges pleaded guilty instead of continuing to deny the charges.
