RAYMOND SCOTT FROM RAMSGATE ARRESTED OVER CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AT CANTERBURY CROWN COURT
In a case that has shocked the local community of Ramsgate, Raymond Scott, a 62-year-old resident of Dundonald Road, was brought before Canterbury Crown Court to face serious allegations involving the possession of indecent images of children.Scott, who appeared in court with white hair and exhibited signs of nervousness, including shakiness and a loss of balance while in the dock, admitted to possessing a total of 13 counts of such material.
Scott has been held in custody since his arrest in December, and the court was informed that he had previously served time in prison for similar offences back in 2002.
The details of his prior conviction were presented during the hearing, highlighting a troubling pattern of behavior.
During the proceedings, Recorder Peter Gower QC listened to the case and the arguments presented by Scott’s defense lawyer, Phil Rowley.
Mr.
Rowley explained that Scott was released from prison on licence and that there was no current requirement for him to undergo psychiatric assessment at that time.
However, he also revealed that Scott had sought psychiatric help in the past, instructing a psychiatrist in Broadstairs.
Unfortunately, that psychiatrist died suddenly, and Scott did not pursue further counseling or assessment elsewhere.
Mr.
Rowley emphasized that Scott was a working man with a family, attempting to lead a decent life despite his troubling temptations linked to his computer usage.
He acknowledged that Scott was aware of his own potential danger and expressed openness to intervention, stating that Scott had a certain level of awareness about his dangerousness and was willing to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
In response to these circumstances, Recorder Gower granted Scott’s request for a psychiatric assessment, which will be conducted ahead of his sentencing, scheduled for April.
The case continues to draw attention to the ongoing issues of online safety and the importance of mental health evaluations in preventing further offenses involving vulnerable children.
