MAN SLAPPED BY ‘UNAMUSED’ WOMAN AFTER EXPOSING HIMSELF IN RAMSGATE KFC ‘PRANK’
A man was slapped in the face after pulling his trousers down in a KFC as part of a “misguided prank”.Charlie Steine was serving a suspended sentence for a sexual offence when he exposed himself at the fast-food restaurant in Ramsgate in July.
He was sentenced for his crimes at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday.
The court heard the 25-year-old had been seen near some youths in Ramsgate town centre on July 20.
Judge Edmund Fowler recounted: “They gave you some money and you went inside a KFC and pulled your trousers down in front of a woman.
“Some misguided prank, no doubt.
She came out and slapped you across the face.” Prosecutor Caroline Knight added: “From the faces of the people in the restaurant caught on CCTV when the defendant took his trousers down, they were clearly unamused.” The court also heard how Steine broke into the home of Muhammad Noman in Queen Street on October 2, before taking the man’s mobile phone.
"Mr Noman returned to his flat at about 11.40pm, to find the defendant sitting on his bed," continued Ms Knight.
"The defendant seemed drunk - he was slurring his words.
He said he was homeless and then left.
"Mr Noman then realised his phone was missing.
He went outside and found the defendant waiting outside the communal door to the flat in the street." The court heard Mr Noman then approached Steine and asked after his missing device.
The thief responded by pulling out a sharpened piece of piping and said: “I think I can help you - give me £5.” "[Mr Noman’s] flatmate came out and gave him £20.
Steine gave him the phone and he left," added Ms Knight.
Steine later pleaded guilty to a public order offence in relation to the KFC incident, and robbery and aggravated burglary for the Queen Street incident.
Having been held on remand since October 6, he appeared via video link from prison.
The court heard the offences had been committed while Steine was subject to a suspended sentence he received in October 2023 for a sexual offence.
Mitigating, Kerry Waitt said his client has initially made efforts to comply with that court order.
“He managed to get himself drug-free but then lost his accommodation, reverted to drugs and was disowned by his family,” the lawyer said.
“He has taken advantage of his time in custody and is now clean of drugs.” Passing sentence, Judge Fowler noted that Steine “had not had an easy start in life” and praised him for spending his time well while in custody.
Steine was given a custodial sentence of 27 months.
He will spend up to half of that term behind bars before being released to serve the remainder on licence in the community.
