BYKER THUG BROKE HIS MOTHER'S LEG BY GRABBING HER FOOT DURING ROW
A mum was left with a broken leg when her son grabbed her foot and lifted it into the air during a row.Raymond Ruddy turned up at his mother's home to pick up belongings but became irate as not everything he was expecting to be there was there.
He ended up lifting her foot up, causing her to fall to the ground and break the top of her femur.
On July 13 he turned up around 10pm and she had left some of his things outside.
But he repeatedly banged on the door and she became concerned about the disturbance so eventually answered it and there was an altercation.
Neil Pallister, prosecuting, said he grabbed her leg, causing her to fall to the floor and landing on her right hand side between her hip and back.
During the attack, he called her an unfit mother and a prostitute.
In a victim impact statement, she said: "I don't want anything to do with him after this.
It left me feeling angry, annoyed and upset and caused me a lot of pain.
I would never expect my son to cause this amount of injury to me.
"I've tried my best and have given him numerous chances but this is the last time I will try to help him." The court heard she had severe pain and was found to have a fractured right leg at the neck of her femur and she needed an operation to replace part of her hip though she's made a good recovery.
Ruddy, 36, of Wilfred Street, Byker, Newcastle, who has seven previous convictions but nothing since 2009, pleaded guilty to inflicting GBH and was jailed for nine months.
He was also given a five-year restraining order.
Miss Recorder Smith said she sentenced him in line with his basis of plea, that he grabbed her foot in self-defence after she kicked his back and that him then raising her leg was the unlawful act.
The judge added: "You were verbally abusive to her and a neighbour and you left the scene without seeking any medical assistance for your mother.
She was your mother, you should have tried to help her." Jonathan Pigford, defending, said: "He didn't intend to cause any injury, it's a reckless assault.
He was there for a genuine reason to collect things belonging to him."
