BARNSLEY MAN JAILED FOR LIFE IN GRUESOME WIFE MURDER
A man aged 63 has been given a life imprisonment for the killing of his estranged wife, with her body found hidden in a car’s trunk in Barnsley.
Raymond Billam, of Guildford Road, Doncaster, was sentenced by Sheffield Crown Court, which confirmed he will serve a minimum period of 18 years.
The late Joy Billam, aged 46, was found dead along Doncaster Road last October.
Post-mortem reports indicated her cause of death was strangulation.
During the trial, it was established that Raymond Billam was guilty of her murder, with the sentencing of a 16-year-old who helped commit the crime occurring subsequently.
Joy’s family expressed heartbreak over the loss but also relief that the court had reached a verdict; her sons Tony and Lee stated: “Although this cannot undo what happened to our mum, we are pleased that Raymond Billam has been found guilty of her murder.
Our mum adored her grandchildren and was full of happiness when she was with them.
Sadly, they will never see her again because of his jealousy and malice.” The tragic nature of the case has been acknowledged by police, who described the incident as devastating for her family.
