WEST BRIDGFORD STUDENT JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND RESEARCH INTO RAPE
A Nottingham Trent University student was found in possession of almost 16 hours of horrific images depicting child abuse, including videos of infants and toddlers being raped.Police investigations also revealed that Rayhan Saeed had been researching methods of sexual assault, such as 'how to rape someone' and the drugs to use, on his electronic devices.
A search of his West Bridgford residence uncovered a balaclava with eye holes, among other items.
Saeed, aged 21, admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and was sentenced to 21 months in prison, suspended for two years, during a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court.
The judge, Mark Watson, explained that every child shown in the videos was a victim of serious sexual abuse, both at the time the footage was created and every time it was viewed.
Describing Saeed’s disturbing interest in extreme pornography and rape, the judge pointed out this was an addiction that originated when he was just 15 years old and persisted into his adult life.
While some might feel he should serve immediate jail time, the judge emphasized its importance to focus on rehabilitation and safeguarding the public.
As a consequence, Saeed’s participation in university studies has been either halted or completely disrupted.
Prosecutor Mark Knowles said that authorities, acting on intelligence, searched Saeed’s shared residence on Charnwood Grove on November 4 of the previous year.
His electronic devices contained nearly 16 hours of child abuse images, including material of very young children and infants being harmed, alongside search terms related to sexual assault and drug use.
The images were categorized into three levels of severity, with 333 as the most serious.
Saeed had no prior criminal record and pleaded guilty.
His defense argued that he had shown remorse and that others influenced his behavior.
The court considered suspending the sentence but ultimately imposed a complex set of conditions, including 250 hours of unpaid work, attending 50 rehabilitation programs, a 10-year sex offender registration, and a sexual harm prevention order lasting ten years.
