SOUTHAMPTON MAN JAILED FOR SEVERE RAPES
Father jailed for raping woman.A father, Ramin Hajhashem, aged 37, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment after being found guilty of raping a woman on two separate occasions in Southampton.
The incidents occurred in 2009 and 2012 while he was living in the city.
The court also heard that he attempted to rape the woman just moments before the incident in 2012.
Hajhashem was sentenced following an eight-day trial.
The prosecutor, Simon Jones, highlighted the profound impact these crimes had on the victim, stating that "the events had ruined the victim’s life." The victim delivered a heartfelt impact statement expressing the psychological trauma she experienced, saying, "I keep remembering all the things he did to me," and lamenting her fear to leave her home and inability to form new relationships.
She hopes the court’s sentence will make Hajhashem realize the wrongfulness of his actions and enable her to move on.
It was noted that Hajhashem, who moved to Southampton from Iran in 2006, returned to Iran in 2012, prompting her to report the crimes.
He then moved back to the UK in September of the previous year and was subsequently arrested.
During mitigation, Hajhashem tearfully read a letter expressing concern for his family in Iran.
Southampton Crown Court condemned his actions before sentencing him.
