RADOSLAW MALEK SENTENCED IN INVERNESS FOR BRUTAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST PARTNER

Radoslaw Malek, a 41-year-old man from Inverness, has been handed a prison sentence of 42 months following a series of disturbing and violent acts directed towards his partner. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of coercive control and physical abuse that spanned over a year, highlighting the severity and brutality of his actions.

Malek’s abusive behavior included invasive and controlling tactics such as monitoring his partner’s mobile phone activity and scrutinizing her online banking details. The court heard that he physically assaulted her on multiple occasions, with one incident involving him slamming her head against a wall, choking her, and kicking her on the soles of her feet. The sheriff presiding over the case, Sheriff Ian Cruickshank, described the experience as terrifying for the victim, emphasizing the frightening nature of the abuse she endured.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Malek had threatened his partner with a desperate and dangerous suggestion that the only way she could escape his control was by jumping out of an upstairs window. The court also heard about his degrading and abusive language, including remarks where he told her she had the intelligence of a donkey and claimed to be 'far superior' to her. He also called her 'horrible, ugly and smelly,' and expressed his hatred towards her. Malek further threatened to take his own life if she decided to leave him, adding a layer of emotional manipulation to his abusive conduct.

Specific incidents of violence were detailed, including an assault on August 7, 2021, at an address in Forres, where Malek pushed his partner in an intimidating manner. The violence escalated over time, culminating in a particularly severe incident on July 1, 2022. During this episode, Malek threw a basketball at her, accused her of disloyalty, and then placed his hand over her mouth and around her throat, causing her to struggle for breath. This attack prompted the involvement of police authorities.

Further violence was documented on November 11, 2022, when Malek physically assaulted his partner again. He was reported to have slammed her head against a wall multiple times, closed a door on her, and pushed her into a bed. During this assault, he stood over her and threatened that the only way she could leave was by jumping out of an upstairs window. The victim, in a state of distress, fled the scene barefoot while Malek was reportedly laughing hysterically, indicating a disturbing lack of remorse.

Malek’s mental health was also discussed during the case. He has a diagnosis of schizophrenia and a history of violent behavior associated with his mental health condition. Despite this, a psychiatric report concluded that he was fit to stand trial. The court acknowledged the prolonged period of coercive and abusive behavior, which included multiple physical assaults and emotional manipulation.

In sentencing, Sheriff Ian Cruickshank backdated the term to 42 months and imposed a six-year non-harassment order, which prohibits Malek from making any contact with the victim. The case underscores the serious nature of domestic abuse and the importance of legal measures to protect victims from ongoing harm.
