MAN JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES FROM TWO DECADES AGO
A man has received a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexual crimes committed against a woman and a girl approximately twenty years ago.Quintino Gomes, aged 65 and residing in Cluny, France, was found guilty of eight separate charges, including six counts of rape, following a trial that lasted ten days at Norwich Crown Court.
The offences took place in Dereham, Norfolk, during the years 2000 and 2001, involving two victims.
One of the victims addressed the court in a personal statement, describing her experience as having been "robbed of a childhood." She also expressed feelings of ongoing shame and embarrassment, stating, "I have had a lifelong feeling of shame and embarrassment," said the same victim in a personal statement read out in court.
"I want my leave these feelings of shame behind me.
I did nothing wrong and I did not deserve what happened to me." Gomes denied all eight allegations, but the jury unanimously convicted him on Friday of the following: four counts of raping a woman, two counts of raping a girl under 16, indecent assault of a girl under 16, and inciting a girl under 16 to perform an act of gross indecency.
As part of his sentence, Gomes was ordered to be on the Sexual Offenders Register for life.
